Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational and Mathematical Seismology
The Imaging and Computing group in the Mathematics department at MIT invites applications for one postdoctoral position in the area of computational mathematics, with specialization in seismology. This position is part of an industry-sponsored effort to investigate novel optimization methods for model velocity estimation. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong background in some of the following areas: numerical methods for partial differential equations; optimization; C, C++, or Fortran programming; parallel programming; and seismology. The position may be offered for 1, 2, or 3 years. It may involve some teaching within the Mathematics department, and/or a joint appointment with the Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences department at MIT. The salary is competitive. The application file should contain a CV, a list of
publications, and a research statement. The application file and at least three recommendation letters should be submitted via email to Prof. Laurent Demanet (). The candidate's message should contain "Postdoc position" in the subject. Screening of applications will begin immediately (April 19, 2010), and will continue until the position is filled.
