Postdoc position in computational seismology at LLNL

The Seismology Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) seeks postdoctoral staff member to do original and independent research in computational seismology.  We are seeking an individual with specialization in forward and inverse calculations with three-dimensional (3D) earth models and broadband waveform analysis.  Topics of interest include but are not limited to: estimation of continental-scale 3D wavespeed models with adjoint waveform tomography; evaluation of waveform prediction capabilities of current 3D models in Eurasia; estimation of source parameters using 3D Green’s functions; simulation of underground explosions including the near-field non-linear material response; development of computer codes for propagating seismic ground motions between different regimes (e.g. non-linear hydrodynamic to linear elastic, local to regional to teleseismic).

The successful candidate will support the Ground Based Nuclear Explosion Monitoring (GNEM) Program.  The successful applicant will have access to LLNL’s world-class high performance computing facilities and the GNEM program’s extensive seismic database.  As is common with all LLNL postdoctoral positions the position allows for 25% self-directed research.

One can see more details on the position and apply online at jobs.llnl.gov, searching for job #008358.  If you have any questions feel free to contact Arthur Rodgers (">, ++01-925-423-5018).
