University Lecturer in Mineralogy and Petrology

UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD Department of Earth Sciences in association with University College

The Department of Earth Sciences proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Mineralogy/Petrology. The successful candidate will work at the Department of Earth Sciences and will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at University College under arrangements described in the further particulars. The start date would normally be 1 September 2013 and will not be later than 1 October 2013.  The salary will be on a scale currently from £42,883 per annum. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

The Department wishes to conduct a broad search in areas of mineralogy, petrology and earth materials that will complement expertise in the department and will strengthen the Department’s future position in the field.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out research, at the international level, that will contribute to the Department’s research reputation, to secure research funding, to teach, supervise and examine undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to participate in and contribute to the administration of the Department. He or she will also hold a Tutorial Fellowship at University College, the details and duties of which are set out in the Further Particulars.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mineralogy, petrology and earth materials, including a PhD, evidence of substantial research and ability to lead an internationally excellent research programme. Ability to teach effectively a range of topics within the fields of the Earth Sciences degree courses and to supervise graduate students are also essential.
